description: hipO.com was a multifaceted website idea that was the first live site to fully merge content with e-commerce. A design trendsetter in its time (the site launched in mid 1999), it was also one of the first to feature the now-commonplace 45 degree angles and sharp-edged themes ubiquitous in 'design' sites today. High in style yet low in bandwidth, it was carefully designed to appeal to teens with short-attention spans. The site proved to be a success with its audience, but like many of the not-coms of the time, it fell prey to the final fate of many an internet startup.
